"Roade is an ancient agricultural settlement
in the Aeley Hundred of Northamptonshire. It was held in 1315 by
Robert Mauntell whose descendants were Lords of the Manor until
1541, when the Dukes of Grafton became the main village Landowners.
Roade depended for centuries on the produce of 1663 acres, which
consisted mainly of wheat, beans and peas".
Dylan Jones August 1982

1849 - Lucy Warr was the Landlady in the first
written reference to The Cock competing with five other alehouses
in the village. Today, over 150 years later "The Cock at Roade"
is one of the only two remaining in the village. Max and Helen Course,
the present Landlord and Landlady, from Towcester and Northampton
respectively, took over The Cock at Roade in July 2002.
The Cock at Roade has a 32 seat, non-smoking restaurant
and a substantial lounge bar area. With a fine selection of Real
Ales, Beers and Lagers, together with a good reputation for excellent
quality and reasonably priced Bar Snacks
and Restaurant Food, (A lot of the dishes
served are made 'in-house' by the two Chefs.)
The Cock at Roade is fast becoming a popular meeting
place for families and business personnel from the surrounding areas
in Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes. The Cock at Roade boasts
a large garden with children's
play area, and during the summer months, has a marquee
facility for those wishing for a shady area to sit.

There are plans at present to increase the Restaurant
area and add up to 10 letting bedrooms to the pub,
but Max and Helen's aim is to keep The Cock as a traditional country
village pub and restaurant,
where their locals and visitors from elsewhere, can come and relax
in a pleasant atmosphere to drink and/or dine in comfort.
